Hi, I am B.E with MBA grad working in one of the pvt IT companies as Trainee SAP BI consultant having 1 month exp. Now as we don't have any projects in pipeline for next 6 months, the cmy came with an option to go for a Business analyst role in SAP add on product ( product Domain consultant). I am really bit confused whether to go as Business analyst (BA) or shall i stick to SAP BI. Please I need help from you guys as to which profile would have more scope in the long run. Further if I chose BA in future can I get an opportunity to work as a functional consultant in SD,CRM etc? Lately I was involved in various ERP projects as a business user and was instrumental in developing quite a few utilities/programs (CRM/Sales force automation etc.) that helped the organization. The project coworker (developers and business analyst ) always get benefited from my experience and we were able to develop a user friendly system. I love exploring ERP systems and finding ways to make it more user friendly, and then getting data extracted from these systems and use the data to develop sales strategies. Thus I am thinking of making SAP BI as my career. Please advise on the following: 1. Should I go ahead with SAP BI or my qualification, experience and interest leads to a different career in SAP/ERP? 2. If SAP BI/ or any other SAP/ERP programming please advise the path to follow in order to get into the new career (education, certification etc.) | __.____._ Copyright © 2011 Toolbox.com and message author. | Job for Consultant Posted: 14 Nov 2011 11:44 PM PST | Re: [sap-career] Next Career Step with Pronto Software Experience Posted: 14 Nov 2011 06:58 AM PST You've been scattered all over the place, but I'd think that master data (mostly SD and MM) might be the bast starter for you. Since your are already employed with a company that does SAP implementations, you've got a huge leg up! You might make it after all. You might have to foot your own training, but you probably don't need full certification. Get some useful classes, then get your company to let you help with supporting some implementations. If you can get 2 or 3 good years of SAP under your belt, you'll be set! One hint: concentrate on making the clients happy with you as a SAP implementer. You want to be able to add them as references. You have no relevant experience in implementing SAP. Let me put it a different way. Saying that Pronto and SAP are both ERP's is like saying that MS Access and Oracle are both Databases. True, BUT. Knowledge of access, just about meant that you know how to spell database. At least if you allow for Phonetic spelling... In order to make it into SAP, you would have to certify in SAP and then convince someone to let you come on as a Fresher! Because that is what you'd be. You'd have to hold that position for several years, before you'd be able to fully transition. Be warned! 99% of those who try that, fail. I am sorry I could not reply as requested by you. Doing SAP ABAP (especially with prior knowledge of programming languages) is possible. However, ABAP is not all about programming only. As you may be aware, SAP Is all about business talk and all related activities. Therefore, it makes sense to learn all business process activities which happen in the business world so that you can understand the sequence and significance of such activities and then put to best use your ABAP skills accordingly. However, if you are seriously bent on doing SAP and have a strong determination with a persuasive desire to learn, come what may, then go on ahead join it. But, if you are doing it, please do it from an institute of repute ( Siemens, which you mentioned, is good). But let me tell you one thing it requires a lot of hard work in acquiring business process skills and ABAP skills and it takes time to shine. If you have the will power, then nothing can stop you from coming up. Wish you success in your endeavor. Regards, VidhyaDhar

Well, focusing on your query, I shall in the first place suggest you to decide very calmly what you love. If the answer is coding, and if you really love scripting, although you did not have it as a course, then you can give ABAP a shot. The other way is utilize your education of biotech in a way for a year or two in a pharma firm on a supply / distribution / sales line where in you realize the complete post production network. Then switch to SD or MM in functional module if you think so then. The point is SAP is not the solution of a boring and ambiguous phase in our career. So please do not jump into the bus without knowing your destination. Regards, DK

(i.e. SAP) 2) Where would I be in 5 years if I did nothing but stayed where I'm at. The answer to Q#2: Just another 5 years older..... The answer to Q#1: Hmmmmmmm. 5 years older... but in a much better position! :-)

First of all, I have no idea what a "cmy" is, but didn't he or she give you any advice? Secondly, with only 1 month's experience you do not have much in the way of BI knowledge and you obviously have no idea what a Business Analyst is or does. A BA is a functional consultant. Throw your net wider and use search engines to get more information from the internet. Your future is what you make it. There are successful and failed BAs, same as in any other walk of life. You have to ask the questions at your place of work, find out what exactly they are offering and what possibilities this will open up. This could be a great opportunity for you so you need to find out the facts and make an unhurried assessment of them. When you have the facts you can come back here and ask for specific advice on them and we can help you. SAP is more often used in business. Additionally, the larger the business the higher that skew is. But ABAP and MBA, and SAP ABAP is closely held by IT. It is only a nice to have for the functional positions. So, the question becomes what do you want to be when you grow up? Until you can answer that question, there is no point about talking about career growth and things like that. Neal

Like anywhere else it is your experience and whether you can add value that matters. What will however kill your chances completely in Hamburg is if you cannot speak German. Although almost all Hamburgers speak English, German is the language used in all official documents and in the newspapers, on TV etc. You MUST be able to speak it well enough to get by on a daily basis. I have lived in Hamburg for nearly 16 years and I do speak German fluently but there are occasions when even my German is not quite good enough. I recently worked on a project in Hamburg where all the documentation was in English even emails, but we discussed everything in German. Strange but true. So you need to be totally bi-lingual even in SAP and business terminology. If you are, the city-state of Hamburg is a wonderful place to live and work. The people are great, friendly and welcoming and very outgoing. The city is lovely with lots of trees and water and a lake in the centre of town, some great restaurants, clubs, bars and theatres and everything you could possibly want. By the way you will find that if you speak to a Hamburger in German (no matter how good) he or she will often answer in English out of politeness and to practise their English, which can be confusing but you get used to switching languages. Regards, Roy mark as helpful.

Now, I am planning to move to Hamburg, Germany. Can anyone suggest if a SAP CRM certification would help me fetch a job there? Thanks in advance. -Ramya | __.____._ Copyright © 2011 Toolbox.com and message author. Toolbox.com 4343 N. Alternatively you can also go for the Material Management module (MM). But before you take any decision talk to various experts from both the modules and weigh your level of interests as well as your strengths & weakness with respect to each module, then only arrive at a concrete decision.

I have taken a decision to change my career and to pursue a career in SAP. Kindly advise as to which functional module will suit me best. Thanks Piyush | | __.____._ Copyright © 2011 Toolbox.com and message author. Toolbox.com 4343 N. Secondly, why do you think either will add any value at all when you have no business experience? That is what you should get first before looking at getting into an ERP situation. Thirdly, this is an SAP forum so few if any of us here have any knowledge of Oracle Apps, but there are good careers to had in SAP. Regards, Roy mark as helpful.

I am looking forward to do a technical course and I found two courses they are SAP ABAP and Orcle APPS. Can any one suggest which one of them will add value to my profile and in which the career growth will be good? | | __.____._ Copyright © 2011 Toolbox.com and message author. Toolbox.com 4343 N.
