| Job for Consultant Posted: 04 Dec 2011 11:39 PM PST | RE:[sap-career] Career change from PM of non-SAP project to SAP implemenntation project Posted: 04 Dec 2011 06:52 AM PST Hi Pauly, The SAP PM role will allow you to understand and get experience in every step of the process for implementing a full SAP cycle. As well as you will see how a SAP consultant work on an actual project as well as the challenges and what are required of the consultants. That should give you a good foundation to make a decision if you truly wants to become a SAP consultant. Likewise as a SAP PM besides doing the PM role you will have the opportunity to actual get access to a SAP system under implementation something that you can not get unless you install SAP in your home. One way you could go is to combine the SAP PM role with becoming an experienced SAP Solution Manager consultant as this is a useful tool which is being pushed hard by SAP to be used as part of all SAP implementations. So I will recommend you to go for the SAP PM opportunity. Regards Peter hansen www.SAPProjectTraining.com

We are the largest SAP training partner in India providing training on various SAP modules leading to SAP certification which is globally valid. However in SAP each module comes with some attached prerequisites. Contact me for more information.

Posted: 01 Dec 2011 12:50 AM PST Thanks Roy for your realistic advices to 'freshers' about the SAP job market. We need people to understand that getting certified is not the always the best starting point particularly in FICO where business experience is quite invaluable to any consultant. Some people are misled into taking a certification course but end up disappointed after it dawns on them that there are no short cuts in the SAP environment especially if one wants to be a consultant!
| | | ---------------Original Message--------------- From: Roy Brookes Sent: Thursday, December 01, 2011 3:06 AM Subject: Which Module of SAP is suitable for me? Hi Niranja, OK, I understand your view. The thing you have to remember is that you do not help the newcomers by giving them false hopes or letting think that it is easy to get a foot on the ladder. It is not, as you should know and I certainly do. I try to give these guys a healthy dose of reality. Too many people on this forum, not you but others, just blithely say "Oh, you can do SD or FI" or whatever without pointing out that doing certification is not even half the battle. Studying and getting certified costs time and money and at the end of it you have a freshly-certified "consultant" sitting on the bench bitter because his certificate has not opened any doors for him and he cannot get a job. Then you get posts from these guys (not just here but on many other forums) saying "SAP should help us" or "the seniors should help us", forgetting that SAP and we are under no obligation to help anybody to get into a job for which he is not qualified by a combination of learning and experience. Consultants sell expertise. You cannot sell that unless you are an expert in your field and a bit of theoretical learning does not make you an expert but years of hard work at the coal face does. When I started as an SAP consultant I already had nearly 30 years of accounting and finance experience behind me, having worked my way up from accounts clerk to finance director. In SAP terms I was a beginner but I had a business background and plenty of subject knowledge which I could bring to bear to learn SAP quickly. After all, it is only another piece of software and I had used many different systems over the years. When I started we used to do spreadsheets with a big piece of paper and a pencil, and that is how I put standard costing into a factory. When you have done stuff like that you understand the processes and can translate them into what is really happening on the ground. Then, when you are faced with doing CO-PC (product costing) you start from the basis that you know what the end result should be, and all the steps along the way. That is just one example. I could go on all day, but I hope you have got my point. Tell it like it is and you will help the newcomers much more. If someone has some experience tell him how to capitalise on it and turn it to account. Yesterday I did an interview for a job in France in CO-PA. Although I am a recognized expert I still had to go through the whole process because the client wants to be sure he is getting an expert. The interview was 50% in the French language to test my skill in that too because I would have to interact with key users from the finance department, which means speaking technical, accounting and business French. I passed the test, of course, but what I am saying is that even we seniors have to jump through the hoops and prove ourselves all the time. This was just the first interview and there will be at least another one before I get the job, if I get it. They may find someone cheaper or more local. It is a hard world out there. I hope this helps you and others. Regards, Roy Brookes FFA, FInstBA,SAP Financials Expert | | __.____._ Copyright © 2011 Toolbox.com and message author. Toolbox.com 4343 N. SAP SD is a huge module. if you have logical thinking skill and hard working nature you can jump into SD. i hope that , your domain experience would not sufficient to understand the entire process in SD. at least you need another 1 or more years of hands on experience. my best advise is first get trained in SAP SD and continue in your current industry and try to map your business with SAP i.e., business process of your industry and what you can do in SAP . go through the book 'Glynn C Williams - SAP SD Implementation , which will boost up your skills in SD and you can come to know so many new areas of business , which you may not come across. hope you understood what mean to tell you. wish you all the best. | Job for Consultant Posted: 29 Nov 2011 11:04 PM PST | RE:[sap-career] SAP Functional Consultant as Career Posted: 29 Nov 2011 06:30 PM PST One thing to know ahead of time is the independent trainer will not teach you the business processes and how it relates to SAP. They probably run through the user guide which you can do on your own with online access to a SAP server. As consultant, which you seek, you are hired as experienced problem solver. If you cannot hit a project solving problems or/and making recommendations from day 1, then you may not be a successful consultant. At the minimum, make sure your independent trainer runs through a project from implementation to upgrade with customizations within. Then you can apply for jobs both in the support role and consulting role. Salary, with your experience, tends to be very minimal but at least you break into SAP. You probably be more successful in a support role or end user initially, then with a few years experience you can jump into consulting from a junior role. A company like Accenture will hire you with 2 years experience and you can get on a project under the guidance of senior consultants. Goodluck

Most times they are not willing to hire you to sit on the bench with no assignment, so they tend to hire you when their is a project opening and will pay for you. But also, the current climate of the economy does not help. THEN the holidays is a time when a lot of companies close their books for the year or slow down till January. So no new project demands unless they are replacing a position. I worked for Accenture 3 years. Good luck as you make your decision.

Please help me on what I need to do. | __.____._ Copyright © 2011 Toolbox.com and message author. Toolbox.com 4343 N. Any suggestions or possible training courses that may be recommended? I have no prior experience in SAP. Thanks, Kevin | __.____._ Copyright © 2011 Toolbox.com and message author. Toolbox.com 4343 N. There are too many people competing for the available jobs, in my opinion. I would think more in terms of leveraging your existing skills by expanding sideways into say MM or SCM, or even PLM. I know guys here in Germany who have done this and now call themselves "Logistics" consultants instead of just SD, and a much bigger field is open to them. Also you can study the new functionality that has come along more recently like BADIs and BAPIs, Function Modules and the like which moves you more towards programming without making you into a programmer but enables you to write functional specifications for new developments that can blow the socks off the bosses. On another tack you can look at Financial Supply Chain Management (FSCM) which has many elements of the old credit management that used to be split between SD and FI but is now all under this one new hat and it goes a bit further with dispute management and so on which is CRM-related. That could be a back door into CRM longer term, but also involves notions of financials and could make you a fully-fledged "Order-to-Cash" consultant, covering all aspects of that business cycle. All of these things can be learned "on the job" with the help of standard SAP documentation and the internet so you only need to invest time and effort and little money. You see the way my mind is working? Like you I am not certified but have worked my way to the top of my field by being prepared to learn anything I have stumbled across on the way. Think it over and decide which way to go first or maybe write yourself a road map to get where you want to be bit by bit. Good luck with it. Regards, Roy Mark as helpful. | | __.____._ Copyright © 2011 Toolbox.com and message author. Toolbox.com 4343 N. My total experience is 15 yrs including 8 yrs of domain and SAP SD of 7 yrs. I need to do some other SAP module to increase my value. Could someone guide which of the following three I take up. I would like to leave my current job and will like to take up SAP education full time. So a break of one month or so. SAP CRM, if yes, which part of CRM i.e CRM marketing, services etc ? SAP PS (I have some user experience only in SAP PS ) SAP BW functional. If yes, what are the course name for BW functional I am in India and an Indian. The problem in India is companies expect you to be manager after having worked for 7 yrs in SAP. If I take the role of a manager, I will forget SAP since I will be involved into resource management etc. So I was thinking of ways to add more skills to my resume etc. I do not have liabilities, i.e I am 37 and still single.
